Preston Photographic Club Inc. Competition Rules

1. Prints
1.1 Prints may be entered in two sections:- a. Small Prints. b. Large Prints

1.2. All prints may be produced either commercially or by member.

1.3 Small prints are to be limited to a maximum size of 15 x 20 cms (6" x 8"). Maximum mount board size permitted is 20 x 25 cms (8" x 10"). Minimum mount board size 15 x 20 cms (6" x 8").

1.4. Large Prints are to be limited to a minimum size of 20 x 25 cms (8" x 10"). Maximum mount size permitted is 40 x 50 cms. (16" x 20").

2. Slides
2.1. Slides must be presented in standard 5 x 5 cms (2" x 2") plastic mounts and may have an optional glass mount. Cardboard mounts are not acceptable.

2.2. Slides must be spotted in lower left hand corner as viewed correctly.

2.3 Slides must be marked with the entrants competition number and title.

2.4 Slide mounts likely to jam in the projector from any cause, including excessive thickness, multiple building of 'spot' or stickers or mount separation will not be accepted.

3. General
3.1. Entries are to be submitted to the Competition Steward by the close of the previous meeting. Entries will be accepted only from current financial members.

3.2. Members are limited to three entries per section, per competition. Entries must bear only the member's COMPETITION NUMBER AND THE ENTRY TITLE.

3.3. All prints or slides taken at club workshops are not eligible to be entered into club competitions. (If lighting, backdrops, camera settings etc. are set up by the presenter then these prints are deemed 'not the original work of the entrant.'

3.4 The selected judges will decide on the merit of the entry. The Competition Steward will decide on its compliance with the rules and he/she reserves the right to reject an entry. If in doubt, the Competition Steward will consult an Appointed sub-committee consisting of the President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer. These decisions shall be accepted as final.

3.5. Within the restrictions imposed by rule 3.7 there may be announced for each competition 1st, 2nd, 3rd and Highly Commended at the judges' discretion.

3.6. All entries are to be marked out of 15 points with a definite 1st, 2nd and 3rd (allowing for constraint rule 3.7).

3.7. Unplaced entries may be given a "Highly Commended" at the discretion of the judge.

3.8. 1st, 2nd and 3rd will be given if there are more than six entries. 1st and 2nd will be given for entries of four to six inclusive. 1st prize only for entries two to four inclusive. Judges decision if less than two entries. Each entry submitted earns 10 points.

3.9. If an entry gains a "Highly Commended" award the competitor may accept the award and gain aggregate competition points. If this decision is made, the slide or print may not be entered in another competition (see Rule 3.10). If the competitor decides to reject the " Highly Commended" the print or slide is eligible for further competition. The Competition Steward must be notified of rejection of the Highly Commended Award by the next meeting.

3.10. Entries which have been placed by a judge or accepted a Highly Commended Award may not be entered into any other club competition other than the End of Year Awards for that year.

3.11 Regardless of rule 3.10, all prints and slides may be submitted for competition into Interclub Competitions.

3.12 Submissions must be in the form of printed photographs. Submissions in the form of memory medium including CD-ROM, floppy disk, smart media and any other memory storing devices are not acceptable.

3.13. Any entry that has not been successful in competition may be used in a later competition at any time subject to rule 3.15.

3.14. All entries must not be older than FOUR YEARS from date of original capture. There is NO AGE LIMIT for slides.

3.15 All entries must be the original work of the entrant. Any member found guilty of breaching this rule will face automatic expulsion from the club.

3.16 Rules will be reviewed annually.

3.17 Each entry submitted into competition will receive 10 bonus points.

4. End of Year Awards
4.1. The Aggregate Awards for slides and each of the two print categories shall be determined by summing scores of each competitor in each competition. Points will be given to each entry submitted.

4.2. All prize winners throughout the year are automatically eligible for end of year judging.

4.3. In addition to prize winners, members may enter 3 other small prints, 3 large prints and 3 slides which have not received any competition points during the year to participate in competition for the annual awards as decided by the committee. These awards are set out in our syllabus.

4.4. All entries for end of year awards should be submitted to the Competition Steward at the LAST meeting in October.

4.5. Responsibility for submission for end of year judging is the sole responsibility of the competitor.

4.6 Any photographs that have been altered in any way, shape or form since they were last judged in previous competitions are not eligible for the end of year awards for that year.

5. Eligibility
5.1. The winner of the aggregate for large prints will no longer be eligible to enter small print competitions in the following or subsequent years.
